Artificial intelligence tools for presentation design in higher education: a comparative analysis

Abstract

This study aims to compare five AI‑based presentation design tools (Beautiful.ai, Tome, Canva AI, SlidesAI, and Gamma) to evaluate their functionality, integration, usability, and adaptability within educational and corporate contexts. Using a qualitative approach of a documentary and descriptive nature, information from reliable secondary sources was collected to construct two comparative matrices.: the first analyzes key features (automatic slide generation, manual editing, real‑time collaboration, and mobile adaptability), while the second examines general characteristics (distribution model, type of AI, level of customization, integration with other applications, export formats, accessibility, and available languages). The results show significant differences in customization, with Canva AI and Gamma standing out for their advanced options. Furthermore, integration with external ecosystems and the variety of export formats are superior in Canva AI and SlidesAI, whereas Gamma provides interactive links and app‑like experiences. The study demonstrates substantial differences in automation, usability, and accessibility, highlighting Canva AI and Gamma as the most versatile and effective tools for educational and corporate settings; tool selection is recommended based on the user’s specific requirements, digital competency, and communication goals.
